Welcome Lakers to the 2015-2016 School year!

Our team is so excited to welcome over 800 learners to this school year at MidSun.  We have some exciting changes including the addition of a portable to our school and new locations for our of our Fitness room and Learning Resource Centre.  Our outdoor classroom has had a face lift with the addition of an extra bike rack to help our students have more places to lock up their bicycles when they ride them to school. We are excited to offer the services of a full time guidance counsellor and teacher librarian to our dedicated team of teachers. We will be working this year on creating engaging tasks for students to demonstrate their understandings of the outcomes from the Programs of Studies, and learning more about outcomes based assessment. We have a new grade 8 SEAS field trip planned along with our grade 9 French Quebec trip and a full complement of band, leadership and Envoe trips to look forward to.  It is sure to be a wonderful year!

Some students and parents may have accessed Home Logic over the summer and may have seen their schedule.  There was a computer error and this information was incorrect.  Students will be given their schedules, complete with the complementary subjects they were assigned to on September 1, 2015.  Please remember that option selection priority numbers do not guarantee any class for any student. Not all options are offered to all classes and while we try our best to honour student choice in option classes, sometimes it is not possible to give students their top choices.  We consider band and French options top choices.  Our teachers ( and our elementary feeder school teachers) have worked hard to balance our classes for academic, gender, students with learning codes, and option selections.  Please prepare your student by discussing strategies to make new friends should they find themselves in a class with no close buddies on the first few days of school.

We do not have a supply list for the first day.  It is a good idea for students to have something to write with and paper to write on.  Supply lists will be provided by each teacher on their first class.  We encourage students to bring their own device to school and to use it with their teachers permission.  We ask that all students read the student handbook and arrive to the first day of school with all the required forms read, printed and returned signed.  These are available on our web site in the left hand side bar.  Busing schedules are also posted on our website.

Payment of School Fees 2015-2016:

The preferred method of payment for school fees is by using the On-line system. Information on how to pay fees can be found using the following link: http://www.cbe.ab.ca/registration/fees-and-waivers.  If you are new to the CBE, you will need to create a CBE Account.  If you are unsuccessful in being able to pay online please check with the school that the information contained on file is the same information you are using.

Alternative methods of payment are cheque or bankers draft.  Please do not send cash with your child.  You may come into the office and pay cash in person but a preferred option would be to bring a bankers draft.

We are sensitive to the fact that paying school fees all at once may place a financial burden on families and would like to stress that we welcome discussing possible payment options.

We are looking forward to welcoming our new grade 7 students on September 1, 2015 from 9:00-Noon and returning grade 8 and 9 students the same day from 1:30-3:30.  More information is available on the back to school tab on our website.

Enjoy your last few days of summer Lakers!
